UPDATE: September 4, 2007 State-Local Investment Pays Off Just over a year after the State-Port Authority investment in a creative financing incentive package for Boeing results in the opening of a new anechoic chamber at the COATC, Boeing is awarded a $20.6 million contract for expanded AWACS-ESM work. The investment is a significant increase in Boeing's revenues in Heath and stands out as a significant new workload that extends beyond the original Air Force Base workload inherited in 1996.

Ohio Lt. Governor Bruce Johnson and Boeing Vice President Rick Baily, together with Boeing and local officials, joined in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the entrance to the one-of-a-kind anechoic chamber used to test and calibrate the ESM radar-detecting antennae used on AWACS aircraft. In his remarks, Lt. Governor Johnson called the Boeing-Port efforts "Ohio's best public-private partnership." Johnson also noted his own personal connection to "The Base." His father moved to Ohio in order to work at the former Newark Air Force Station in the 60's and 70's. The guests in attendance for the day's events included representatives from U.S. Senator Mike DeWine, U.S. Senator George Voinovich, Congressman Ney, Congressman Tiberi, State Senator Hottinger, the Licking County Commissioners, and Heath Mayor Dan Dupps.

News Clips “We are currently completing 5-S actions, identifying and packing some items,” said Corinth Operations Manager Henry Gantt. “Planning and schedules are in place to begin the move of equipment on Feb. 28. The equipment move will continue until all of the non-Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and some of the lower level ESM modules are transferred by May 15.” Mitch Stone, Heath Facilities manager, and Corinth transition program manager, said the non-ESM construction area will be ready to accept equipment from Corinth on March 3. “We continue to finish all utility installation necessary to support the equipment with completion around Feb. 13. Final floor preparations will be completed by March 1.” The ESM area is already prepared, Stone said. Anechoic chamber manufacturer ETS Lindgren began installation and will install structural steel starting the week of Feb. 13 with the remainder of the chamber to follow. Chamber assembly is expected to be complete in June as is work in the antenna range room. The employee transfer process is set in two stages with the first group arriving April 10 through May 15 and the second group moving to Heath by June 30. The first group will be in Heath just in time for the non-ESM workloads to be in place by May 15.
Gantt says the customer has been working with his group to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
Over 50 business and public officials were on hand for the event which was keynoted by Ohio Governor Bob Taft. Governor Taft's visit comes on the heels of the State of Ohio's very aggressive incentive package which helped attract Boeing's new investment in Heath. In his remarks, Governor Taft recognized Boeing for their large investment in Ohio. He recognized the Boeing workforce. He thanked the many people involved from the state, local, and federal levels to help attract this job creating project to Ohio.
